Lance Briggs Takes His Franchise Tag Like a Man

ESPN is reporting that Lance Briggs is prepared to sit out the 2007 season, rather than play for the $7.2 million, 1-year contract offered by the Bears via the franchise tag.
(Insert your own “feed the family” joke here)
“People think I can’t afford to sit out the year — I can take out loans to get me through that year just fine because eventually I’ll have a deal somewhere,” Briggs told FoxSports.com. “There are things I can do to make sure I’m fine financially if I sit out.”
Fortunately, some companies have all ready stepped up to the plate to offer Briggs some sponsorship income during his time of need:

He’d look great in Packer green next to AJ Hawk, wouldn’t he?
Not that I’ve heard - I think this is going to be a long, drawn out staring contest, much like the Deion Branch holdout last year that could drag into the regular season. Unless someone makes the Bears an offer they can’t refuse…
